Garden Rooms & Prices
We use Western Red Cedar cladding on our buildings. Why is Cedar a fantastic material to clad your garden room?
Western Red Cedar wood has excellent dimensional stability (shrink/expand) because of its low wood density and low moisture content (at saturation point). This is due to the naturally occurring oils within. These aromatic oils also grant the wood a natural resistance to rot, decay and insect attacks. Western Red Cedar is harvested from the most sustainably managed forests in the world, so you can feel good about your cladding.
Our Process
Construction
The building is constructed with sips panels (structural insulated panels), with 100mm insulation in the walls, floor and ceiling. This provides excellent heat retention ensuring your room is energy efficient all year round. The total thickness of the walls is 222mm.
Our Process
Interior
The walls and ceilings are boarded and plastered, left to dry, and then fully painted. The floor is laid with a herringbone LVT click floor (Luxury Vinyl Tile) and finished with a white gloss skirting. Full electrics are installed including a consumer unit, internal and external spotlights, and a minimum of four double sockets inside. A weatherproof double socket is installed outside. The room will have a Network point with Cat6 (internet) cable as standard. Electrics can be customised to your needs, eg. extra sockets/T.V. point
Our Process
Exterior
We add Aluminium sliding doors (upgrade to lift and slide available), and windows with Argon filled glazing units. All door units are equipped with toughened safety glass and high-security multi point locking. All Units Secure by Design accredited.
The roof covering is represented by EPDM (synthetic rubber), with a life expectancy of 50 years. The roof edging is finished with colour coded aluminium trims, and serviced by a black half round UPVC guttering.
Next comes the Western Red Cedar cladding – the star of the show! The cladding has a life expectancy of 40-60 years. There are two options.
The first one is maintenance free. The cedar can be left to weather naturally, giving the building a beautiful silvery grey finish. The grain of the cedar darkens and becomes pronounced like monochrome pencil work.
The second option requires a little more effort, but not too much. The cedar is left to acclimatise for 4 – 6 weeks, then 2 coats of UV protection oil are applied. This process must be repeated every 1 – 2 years. With this option the oil enhances the grain in the cedar and a rich honey finish can be achieved.
